A M S T E R D A M

AmsterDAMN this place was cool (I won't do that ever again)!

Amsterdam has been very high on places I want to visit for a very long time and in September 2022 I finally went!

After reconnecting with someone living in Amsterdam in 2020 during lockdown, it was finally time we met for the first time since 2017. Over the years, I'd seen so many beautiful photos of the city and everything about it looked incredible so I was super excited to visit!

The night I arrived, my friend came to pick me up and took me to explore the city's streets at night. I tried a classic stroopwafel as well as a croquette. I had no clue what to expect with this because I was told it was like a beef mousse but it was one of the best things I have ever tasted! It had the perfect balance of crispy and soft with delicious flavours the whole way through - I would highly recommend a visit to a FEBO to get one!

The next day, I took a stroll through the beautiful Vondelpark and was shown around Jordaan which is home to the Anne Franke Haus as well as Winkel 43 aka the best place to get apple pie (which I forgot to take a photo of…I’m new to this kind of thing okay?). This area of the city is filled with picturesque rivers, flowers and beautiful architecture. I felt like I was transported to a different reality here where everything just seemed brighter and happier.

Museumplein is home to the famous Van Gogh museum as well as Rijksmuseum. Me being me, I didn’t book tickets far enough in advance to visit the Van Gogh museum and they were all sold out but I guess that means I will just have to go back one day…hopefully soon!

Near the museums lies the Miffy store, or, as she is called in Dutch “Nijntje”. This store was full to the brim to suit all your Miffy needs and desires. From plushies to mugs, to keyrings and childrens books, this store really had it all. It was so hard to control myself and not buy the entire store. The owner of the shop was super lovely, so if you get the chance to visit I would totally recommend popping in!

I paid a visit to the Flower Market which is home to every colour of tulip under the sun, as well as some fun little souvenirs. It was so much fun walking round each of the different stalls and taking it all in. After building up an appetite from walking around, I decided to head to the stroopwafel place that I had seen on TikTok because who doesn’t love testing places TikTok recommends? The queue was about 15 minutes long to get into the shop, however it is well worth the wait! There is a really great selection of toppings you can get on your waffle – I opted for Smarties! They are all made fresh in front of you so you know that it’s going to be warm and gooey on the inside.

This city is the first place abroad I've visited and thought "Yeah, I could live here" and I think about the city nearly every day. It took me about 2 months to edit the photos but when I got round to it, I wanted to try a different editing style and go for a more vintage look and I think it worked out well!
